TEMPLE EMANU-EL TO HOST INTERNATIONAL SHABBAT SERVICE International Jewry will be celebrated Friday evening, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El, located at 151 McIntosh Road in Sarasota, the Temple has announced. Speaking from the pulpit will be Rabbi Gary Bretton-Granatoor, vice president of the World Union of Progressive Judaism, which serves more than 1,400 liberal Jewish congregations and 1.8 million Jews in 47 countries, a news release says. The Shabbat service will also have an international flavor, with Temple Emanu-El members reciting the traditional Sabbath prayers not only in Hebrew and English but also in Dutch, Spanish, French, German, Russian and Portuguese, the release notes. A reception featuring homemade desserts from around the world will conclude the evening. Members of the community are warmly invited to this special event.
