Going to synagogue might not seem like the most romantic way to spend Valentine's Day, but Temple Emanu-El will tempt the public with a special Chocolate Shabbat service on Friday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. "The service will feature author and scholar Rabbi Deborah Prinz talking about that most important staple of Valentine's Day: choco- late!" a news release notes. The Temple is located at 151 McIntosh Road in Sarasota. Prinz will share wisdom and stories from her book On the Chocolate Trail: A Delicious Adventure Connecting Jews, Religions, TEMPLE EMANU-EL TO WELCOME PRINZ FOR CHOCOLATE SHABBAT History, Travel, Rituals and Recipes to the Magic of Cacao (Jewish Lights, 2012). A sought-after speaker who has lectured throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Europe and Israel, Prinz will discuss "the Jews' little-known role in the chocolate trade and the Jewish influence on the choc- olate we know and love today," the release adds. A special oneg, or dessert reception, "featur- ing sumptuous chocolate treats" will follow the service and Prinz's talk, the release says. All members of the community are welcome.
