The question for the board will be, "Do we
want to take on this financial liability/respon-
sibility?" Hadsell said.
If it does not, according to an email Tom
Polk, the county's director of planning and
development services, sent to the county com-
missioners on March 11, the funds could be
moved to the housing rehabilitation program
account. Polk pointed out, "The rehabilita-
tion funds [the county already has] are either
committed to projects or are already spent."
Altogether, at the start of the fiscal year, the
county had $2,000,863.38 in available HOME
Program funds for projects, he noted. The
Down Payment Assistance Program is one
facet of the HOME Program.
"I feel that I need to have a policy discussion
with the City Commission," Litchet told the
News Leader on March 12.
After the City Commission decides how it
wants to proceed, Polk added in his email, the
matter will be before the County Commission
for further discussion.
