Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight has announced that all personnel in the agen- cy's Crime Scene Unit are now certified through the International Association for Identification (IAI). "IAI is the world's oldest and largest foren- sic science identification association," a news release explains. Crime scene certifi- cation involves meeting certain background prerequisites in terms of education, training and experience, the release notes. "In addi- tion, personnel must pass a comprehensive test that takes several hours to complete and involves upwards of 300 questions," the release says. Crime Scene Technicians Jerry Wagner, Alison Gugliotta and Megan Krahe were the most recent forensics employees to pass their exams, the release continues. Supervisor Mike Gorn has held his certification since 2001, and technicians Jessica Hendrickson and Maxine Miller received their certifications last year. "Certification is a measure of quality," said Knight in the release. "Becoming certified means that a forensic scientist has the train- ing, knowledge and experience to perform their job at a high level.
