Siesta Seen the bench to see if that will stop them from sleeping in the cubby (bench area)." THE STORMWATER PROJECT Things are continuing to run a bit behind again on the Siesta stormwater project site next to the public beach, according to Isaac Brownman, newly appointed director of pub- lic works for the county. The arrival of the modular pump house on order has been delayed "slightly to April 15th and will require 3 to 4 weeks" to be set up and wired into the pump station, he notified the County Commission this week. "Final testing of the pump station is still anticipated to be in early May," he added. At least Florida Power & Light has completed installation of the new electrical conduit, he noted. In mid-February, staff was looking at March 14 as the date for substantial completion of the project; final county acceptance of the work was planned for April 13. The County Commission awarded the $4.6 million project to Forsberg Construction Inc. of Punta Gorda on April 23, 2013. The work originally was to have been completed by Dec. 31, 2013. However, heavy rainfall last summer — especially in September — led to delays in digging the new 1-acre stormwa- ter pond. Other problems, just as Brownman noted with the pump house, have cropped up in recent weeks, though the pond is complete. % A March 13 aerial photo shows the site of the new stormwater pond next to Siesta Public Beach, where improvements are under way.
