Administrator Lee Ann Lowery on Monday, March 24, that she and Laird Wreford, director of coastal resources, recommended moving the discussion from April 23 to June 10 or 11. The reason, she pointed out, is that the Army Corps "indicates that the long-awaited model- ing/impacts analysis report will be released at the end of April [and] that report will contain information that is critical to the discussion that the County Commission has requested." Staff would like time to review and report on the Army Corps documents prior to the County Commission discussion, Meese added. As a result of Meese's email, Dianne Robertson, assistant to County Administrator Tom Harmer, informed the commissioners in an email that Harmer had asked that the materials be dis- tributed as soon as they come in, and then staff would confirm the schedule of the discussion "for your first set of meetings in June." The organization Save Our Siesta Sand 2 has just launched a website to bolster opposition to the proposed dredging of Big Sarasota Pass and to raise funds for an independent review of a report to be released by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regarding the dredging plan.
