Street and St. Armands Circle. The Downtown Improvement District (DID) board has been pushing for years to see the city work out a deal for the commercial cleaning of the side- walks. Thanks to the selection of Sunshine, the board members believe the downtown sidewalks can be scoured and transformed again into pleasant pathways. DID Operations Manager John Moran said Sunshine would charge $795 "per cleaning." The city will pay for two per year, and Moran suggested the DID could find $7,950 to pay for 10 more. "I'd say we start with the dirtiest sidewalk in Sarasota, along Main from Orange to Gulfstream," he suggested. "This eliminates the need for restaurants to do it themselves?" asked DID member Mark Kauffman. "That is correct," replied Moran. The next piece of downtown beautification the DID proposes is the re-sodding of Five Points Park. Heavy foot traffic, sandy soil and deep shade all contribute to heavy wear on the grass.
