After a tenure of slightly less than two years as Sarasota County Area Transit's director, Glama Carter will no longer be at the helm. In a July 15 letter, Assistant Sarasota County administrators terminated her and scheduled her last day of employment as July 18. County Administrator Tom Harmer's decision to fire Carter took the only county commis- sioner reached by The Sarasota News Leader by surprise, and a public transportation advocate told the News Leader he is worried the action will leave a void in the county's transit system. "I was surprised," Commissioner Nora Patterson said in an interview with the News Leader. "I wasn't aware of problems." She added, "It was an administrative call."
