Siesta Seen LIFEGUARDS TAKE A 24-HOUR PADDLEBOARD CHALLENGE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR YMCA SHELTER By Rachel Brown Hackney Editor Editor's note: Former read- ers of the Pelican Press who enjoyed Rachel Brown Hackney's "Island Beat" column, which kept all ap- prised of goings-on on Si- esta Key, will be pleased to know that her new column — "Siesta Seen" — will be a regular feature in The Sarasota News Leader. Sarasota County lifeguard Robert Martini knows what it is like to be homeless. "You can be at the bottom and bring yourself all the way back up," he told me this week. To convey that message to the youngsters at the YMCA Youth Shelter, he recruited anoth- er county lifeguard, Brad Ward, to join him in a 24-hour paddleboard fundraiser over the weekend to raise funds for the shelter.
