The community event is open to all county residents, a news release points out. "The Annual Celebration brings the commu- nity together each year to honor a Boundary Crosser — that individual who has connected people across lines that traditionally divide community," said John McCarthy, SCOPE executive director, in the release. "This year, the public was invited to participate in the nomination process, along with the commit- tee of citizens and former Boundary Crossers. We're pleased to be honoring Cathy Layton as the 2014 Boundary Crosser." Layton, who has held numerous leadership roles in the community, is chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, the release points out. She has been recognized as a leading force in the comple- tion of the Children's Rainforest Garden. Boundary Crossers are honored not only for creating positive change in the community, but also for inspiring others to do the same, the release continues.
