Sarasota News Leader January 18, 2013 Page 86 Siesta Seen Regarding yet another topic, Patterson said county staff soon will be setting up meetings with members of the public — including Siesta residents — and owners of nightclubs and restaurants — to talk about the county's noise ordinance, which the County Commission voted on Sept. 25 to extend for one year. Larry Allen, who works with the County Commission through the county's Communications Department, sent an email to Patterson this week, saying staff "will be scheduling community engagement opportunities with various citizen groups in the upcoming months. This scheduling effort will commence next week. Staff is also looking at 'best practices' in neighboring jurisdictions and beach communities to see how these areas regulate noise and entertainment." THE AWARDS Quite a few of the winners of the Condo Council's annual lighting contest were present to pick up their plaques and ribbons on Jan. 15. We announced the winners in our Dec. 21 issue — thanks to the gracious assistance of Diane Erne, who helped organize the contest this year. However, I am including them again, as all the winners deserve recognition for their efforts: (From left) Commissioner Nora Patterson presents a first-place plaque to the Siesta Dunes group: Danny Giquinto, Ina Savage and John Sancin.
