Sarasota News Leader July 4, 2013 With a unanimous vote on June 24, the North Port City Commission approved a revised interlocal agreement with Sarasota County that calls for the city to undertake a competitive bid process to secure a manager for a period no longer than 12 months, although that contract could be renewed if the City and County commissions choose to do so while they figure out long-term plans for the resort. The latter process is what ultimately led to the closure. Three North Port city commissioners — two of whom were elected in November 2012 — had been intent on keeping Warm Mineral Springs more like a park while the County Commission continued to point to a joint city-county agreement inked in July 2012 Page 38 A county marker at Warm Mineral Springs points to the history of the site.
