NEW INITIATIVE NOTIFIES THE PUBLIC OF SEX OFFENDERS/PREDATORS
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is launching a new initiative to notify residents more
publicly of sex offenders and predators who
register a local address for the first time the
office announced Sept. 5.
When a sex offender or predator is released
from jail or prison, or moves to a new address,
the person must register with the Sarasota
County Jail, a news release points out. When
an offender registers in Sarasota County for
the first time, the Sheriff's Office will issue a
press release, publish it on its website and post
a notification to the agency's Facebook page,
"which will include the person's mug shot in a
distinctive graphic that should become recognizable to residents," the release says.

In addition to including residential information, the release will state when the person's
crime occurred, provide context about the
