Sarasota News Leader October 4, 2013 ARTISTS TO PRESENT WORK AT HERMITAGE RETREAT On Friday, Oct. 4, Florida artists who teach drama, dance, music, writing and the visual arts will culminate a four-day conference with beach readings and open studio tours at the Hermitage Artist Retreat, 6660 Manasota Key Road, Englewood, the Hermitage has announced. Tours will begin at 5:15 p.m., while the readings will commence on the beach in front of the Hermitage campus at 6:15 p.m. sharp, followed by sunset about 7:15 p.m., a news release says. "Visitors are encouraged to bring their beach chairs and refreshments to enjoy" during the readings, the release notes. The events are free and open to the public. "We are thrilled to be able to host the Association of Florida Teaching Artists," said Bruce E. Rodgers, Hermitage executive director, in the release. Mary Kelly/Contributed photo A unique group of artists, with varying backgrounds, will participate in the event, the release continues: • Gabrielle Lennon focuses on analysis, interpretation and performance of prose, poetry and drama. Additionally, she writes professionally for magazines, newspapers, newsletters, journals and the theater. • Mary J. Kelly has 25 years of experience as a professional storyteller/actress, teaching artist and creativity consultant. "She makes use of expressive vocalizations and visually exciting physical movements to create a cavalcade of characters" who reflect historical and contemporary attitudes, the release adds.
