After five decades of touring, the members of the Irish Rovers are on one last tour "packed with that Irish charm and wit that has cap- tivated audiences since 1964," a Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall news release says. The group will appear on the Van Wezel stage in Sarasota on Feb. 13, the news release adds. "Throughout the years, these international ambassadors of Irish music have maintained their … ability to deliver a rollicking, rousing performance of good cheer — one that will soon have you singing and clapping along," the release adds. "Their songs have become anthems of revelry and joy among generation after generation of fans," the Belfast Telegraph has written. The members of the Irish/Canadian folk group became Canadian citizens at the request of then-Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. By 1989, they had represented Canada at five world Expos, the release notes. Recent YouTube videos of the group's Drunken Sailor recording have scored a total of more than 10 million hits, "securing their newest generation of fans," the release points out. Tickets are priced from $30 to $50. For more information, call the box office at 953-3368 or visit VanWezel.org.
