According to the website, the new owner
is Vanilla Sky International Properties. The
Division of Corporations section on the
Florida Secretary of State website includes
Vanilla Sky International Properties on its
Fictitious Name List, with the company
address listed as 6537 Sabal Drive, Sarasota
FL. The website explains the following about
the Fictitious Name Act: As outlined in Chapter
865 of the Florida State Statutes, "Fictitious
name means any name under which a person
transacts business in this state, other than the
person's legal name."
The details provided on the site say Vanilla
Sky International Properties filed its registra-
tion on Feb. 10, 2014, with an expiration date
of Dec. 31, 2019. The owner is listed as Siesta
Vacations Inc. at 6537 Sabal Drive, and the
name provided is Marni Larkin of 6537 Sabal
Drive.
A News Leader check of the Sarasota County
Property Appraiser's website on Feb. 11
shows the 6537 Sabal Drive property is still
owned by Dr. Craig Siegel Life Estate/Siesta
Resorts LLC Trustee, noting the most recent
transfer of the property occurred on Dec. 31,
2012 for $0. The total assessed value of the
house and land in 2013 was $548,460. The
Property Assessor's website also notes that
the current house was built in 2011.
The VRBO website says the house has six
bedrooms and two bathrooms, enabling it
to sleep 16 people. It rents for $414 to $529
per night, with a minimum stay of six nights
required. The site also noted on Feb. 11 that
the rental dates calendar was updated on
Feb. 8.
SIEGEL'S OTHER ACTIVITIES
Siegel is listed on the Florida Board of
Chiropractic Medicine website with a valid
license through March 31, and he is still listed
as a physician on the website of State Street
Spine in Sarasota. However, the News Leader
has confirmed from multiple sources that
Siegel is in the process of selling the State
Street practice.
According to one source, who asked not to be
named, Siegel says he is retiring.
Vanilla Sky International Properties also
rents a house at 5174 Sandy Cove Ave. on
Siesta Key. A second VRBO website lists it as
a "Siesta Key Village estate" with three bed-
rooms, but the site says the house can sleep
12, thanks to "a premium queen pullout sofa,
and queen air mattresses …"
That residence, listed at 2,500 square feet,
rents from $341 to $427 per day with a mini-
mum stay of six nights.
According to county Property Appraiser
Office records, Siegel sold that house for
$450,000 on Nov. 26, 2013, to James Radcliffe
as trustee of the 5174 Sandy Cove Land Trust.
On July 29, 1999, Charles S. and Jeanne A.
Abel sold the house to Siegel for $315,000.
In 2013, the total assessed value of the land
and structures was $597,256. %
