An affordable housing problem that brings Catch-22 to mind, a County Commission debate over a hotel deal in downtown Sara- sota, big votes coming up on the homelessness front, mounting legal bills for the St. Armands Business District, roundabout art, remarks from New York City's former police commissioner — and that is not all we dealt with this week. The saga of the Sabal Drive house on Siesta Key has grown even more interesting, thanks to new information from the county, the state and a bevy of sources who have been following this story from across the country. Associate Editor Cooper Levey-Baker probably had the most di- verse issues to cover. He not only went to the Sarasota County Council of Neighborhood Associations meeting Monday, which focused on roundabouts, but he also attended the Tiger Bay Club program on medical marijuana and dove back into the Bend- erson Park "clawback" matter regarding the po- tential payback of state funds for the rowing facility. Late last year, Cooper was in the news himself for his creative writing as well as his journal- ism, and he was most deserving of the atten- tion. I really do not put him in the spotlight in this space as often as I should. He has an extraordinary gift for translating even the most complex topics into easy and pleasur- able reading — as anyone who has read his stories about the 2050 Plan can attest. I told someone this week that this is the most enjoyable job I have had in a long time, and the main rea- son is our wonderful staff mem- bers — every single one of them.
