Siesta Seen work is under way on the western end of the park — Parks and Recreation Director Brown pointed out, "We made it clear that it's going to be messy, but the sandy portion of the beach is really not going to be affected at all." She was referring to the area on the beach side of the historic pavilion, where weddings traditionally are held. When Phase IV — the last segment of work — is under way, Brown said, parking will not be convenient for that section of the beach. However, holding a wedding there "[is] not impossible." The county has launched a website to keep the public up-to-date on the two-year-long construction process. ROUNDABOUT TALK The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) proposal for a roundabout at the intersection of Beach Road and Midnight Pass Road also arose during the discussion of the public beach improvements during the Feb. 4 SKA meeting. Commissioner Patterson made it plain once again that the idea did not originate with the County Commission. Moreover, she said, "I Pedestrians cross Beach Road at its intersection with Midnight Pass Road on Siesta Key — the intersection where state transportation officials propose a roundabout.
