DEEP CITY: THE BIRTH OF THE MIAMI SOUND 6:15 p.m. Saturday, April 5, and 2:45 p.m. Monday, April 7 I love films that uncover hidden music his- tories, and that's exactly what Deep City promises. The movie is an hour-long doc- umentary about Deep City Records, a Miami-based funk and soul label that deliv- ered hot tracks to 1960s audiences. Deep City also happened to be the first black- owned label in Florida. The Motown of Miami? Perhaps. WETLANDS 9:15 p.m. Saturday, April 5, and 8:45 p.m. Friday, April 11 True film lovers should always look to be pro- voked and disgusted, and Wetlands promises a good opportunity for both. The feature is based on German author Charlotte Roche's provocative novel of the same name; after it screened at Sundance, it was dubbed the festival's "crassest," "most outrageous," "raunchiest" and "most WTF NSFW" film. I'll just quote the festival's description, if you don't mind: "The movie is about a twen- ty-something woman obsessed with pushing the boundaries of her own feminine hygiene." For the adventurous. A still from Andrew Rossi's Ivory Tower. Contributed photo Sarasota News Leader March 14, 2014 Page 93
