schools. We will never take that confidence
for granted. Thank you, Sarasota County!"
"I am absolutely thrilled that our community
holds us in such high regard," Goodwin con-
curred in her interview with the News Leader.
The voter turnout for this referendum on the
1-mill tax was 16.73 percent, according to the
website of the Sarasota County Supervisor of
Elections. Of the 273,207 voters registered for
the election, 45,720 cast ballots, with 35,094
saying, "Yes."
Goodwin pegged the lower turnout to more
organized opposition to the tax renewal this
time. Still, she told the News Leader, "The
business community, the arts community, the
charter schools" and many other entities sup-
ported the district.
