During the April 3 SKA meeting, Luckner, now the SKA's second vice president, reported that the variance petition is scheduled to be heard by the County Commission on April 23. Recently retired SKA Director Peter van Roekens, who was in the audience, said he had heard some discussion regarding an effort by the owners to modify the plan to include a proposal for a conservation easement. Howard Berna, environmental supervisor in the county's Natural Resources Department, told the News Leader on April 15, "I have had an indication that [the Allens] wanted to do a conservation easement, but I haven't seen a plan for that."
