Barbetta wants the bus transfer station moved to the county-owned parking lot at the intersection of School Avenue and Charles Ringling Boulevard. The southeastern cor- ner of that intersection is site of the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County. A crosswalk was recently added across School Avenue to eliminate rampant jaywalking to the Health Department. Three parking lots feed into the intersection — from the Health Department, Payne Park and the county lot used by employees. The same small stretch of roadway also has two bus stops. Because School Avenue has escaped the mania for speed control devices — humps, bumps and tables — it has become a high- speed commuter artery, as well as a route favored by parents conveying their sons and daughters to Sarasota High School. The transfer station property issue has not formally come up before the city commission- ers, who may not be aware of the buy-back provision in the 12-year-old contract.
