Without commission action, the ordinance will sunset on Nov. 1, 2014. Staff is recom- mending that the new sunset date be Nov. 1, 2019. That is the matter the board will address on Aug. 26. As Patterson put it during the board's regu- lar meeting on July 8, "It's kind of an unusual parking district. … The residents actually don't get a permit, so calling it a 'residential parking permit program' is actually not what it is." The permits go to owners of the short-term rental units in the district, "which, in many cases are duplexes that have been carved up into five-plexes and six-plexes," Patterson noted.
