Sarasota News Leader October 12, 2012 STRIDER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS OCT. 12-15 BMX racers ages 2-5 from around the world will compete for a world title at Sarasota County's BMX Track, 1590 North Tuttle Ave., Sarasota, during the 2012 Strider World Championships, Oct. 12-15. This year's festivities also will include on- site entertainment by the Radio Disney Road Crew, a county news release says. The 2012 Strider World Championship on Sat- urday, Oct. 13, will feature racers ages 2, 3, 4 and 5 from North America, Asia, Europe and South America. All racers can qualify for the World Championship races by attending qual- ifying practice on Friday, Oct. 12, the news release says. Spectator admission and parking for the event are free. Racer registration before Oct. 12 is $25; it includes admission to qualifying events and race day. Registration on qualifying day is $35. All registered racers will receive a gift bag with merchandise and coupons supplied by race sponsors. The bag's contents are valued at $50, the news release notes. In addition to the World Championship races, the weekend will feature family-friendly activ- ities during the Sarasota Kids Fest: • Free Strider loaner bikes for youngsters ages 18 months to 5 years in the Strider Ad- venture Zone all weekend • The Strider Beach Parade on Lido Beach • A Strider party at Sarasota's Payne Park • Toddler best trick contest • Adult Strider bike races "We are thrilled that the 2012 Strider World Championships are returning to Sarasota County," said Carolyn Brown, general manag- er of Sarasota County Parks and Recreation, in the news release.
