A BIG IDEA TOM BROKAW BRINGS HIS VISION FOR UNITY TO SARASOTA By Vicki Chatley Contributing Writer "A big idea." That is Tom Brokaw's prescription for bringing Americans together and ending the deep divisions that have marked the recent national and legislative landscapes. Speaking April 8 at the final lecture of the Ringling College Library Association's Town Hall 2013 series, Brokaw, well-known as a longtime NBC news correspondent and anchor, suggested he would have a conversa- tion with the audience, a conversation in which, he readily admitted, he would do the talking. It was, perhaps, that conversational approach that made him a favorite among the viewing public and gained him interviews with such noted figures of their times as Madeline Albright; Margaret Thatcher, the first female prime minister of Great Britain (whose death he announced upon taking the Tom Brokaw addresses the news media during an April 8 briefing at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota.
