municipal boundaries or the unincorporated sections of the county. That map in the county's draft Post Disaster Redevelopment Plan (PDRP) and other illus- trations document how storm surges can reach well inland, beyond the islands. Sarasota County began drafting its post disas- ter plan after the back-to-back storm seasons of 2004 and 2005. On Wednesday, Wreford summarized a draft of the 112-page docu- ment, which outlines how the county would redevelop and spur economic recovery for the long-term after a major storm event. "This is a preliminary discussion," Wreford said. "It will come back to you in October for formal adoption." There have been many meetings and collab- oration with officials from municipalities, he pointed out. "Large storms do not recognize political boundaries," Wreford said. As the final version of the PDRP takes shape, the hope is that those municipalities will endorse or adopt the countywide plan, Wreford added. The Barrier Island League has suggested adding the underlined text to the Post Disaster Response Plan. Image courtesy Sarasota County Sarasota News Leader June 13, 2014 Page 58
