On June 26, the Sarasota Architectural
Foundation (SAF) will host a film and panel
discussion about the work of Victor Lundy,
the organization has announced.
The documentary, Victor Lundy: Sculptor of
Space, will be shown at Burns Court Cinema
at 7:30 p.m. Afterward, panelists Carl Abbott,
John Howey and Christopher Wilson will dis-
cuss Lundy, a news release explains.
"The [film] beautifully captures the recollec-
tions of the modern American master architect
and artist," the release says of Lundy.
Born in 1923, Lundy practiced architec-
ture in Sarasota between 1953 and 1960, the
release adds. He is considered one of the
founding members of the Sarasota School of
Architecture, it notes.
The film was produced by the U.S. General
Services Administration (GSA), whose U.S.
Tax Court was designed by Lundy in 1965
and completed in 1972. The building is on
the National Register of Historic Places, the
release points out. "Throughout his career,
Lundy strove to create inspiring and uplift-
ing spaces, most of which can be described
as having 'more roof than wall,'" the release
adds.
Burns Court Cinema is located at 506 Burns
Court in downtown Sarasota. Check-in time
for participants is 7 p.m. The panel discussion
and Q&A are expected to conclude at 9 p.m.
The cost for SAF members is $10; for the pub-
lic, $15; and for students, $5.
