Photos by Tyler Whitson and Arielle Scherr FIFTH ANNUAL WSLR BEACH BASH CELEBRATES THE ROLE OF SUPPORTERS IN COMMUNITY RADIO By Tyler Whitson Contributing Writer On Sunday, Oct. 14, droves of WSLR program- mers, volunteers and supporters slipped into flip-flops, donned sunglasses and made their way to the Siesta Key Public Beach with Tup- perware containers full of delicious fixings for the community radio station's fifth annual Beach Bash party, potluck and concert. Those at the event, which started around 3:30 p.m., were treated to live performances by a number of local musical artists throughout the afternoon, as the smell of burgers, hot dogs and vegetarian grillables wafted through the temperate air. DJ Haile Burke queued up funky, easygoing reggae and dub tracks to get the beach party vibes flowing while equipment was set up for the live performances of the afternoon.
