File photo SARASOTA COUNTY CONTINUES TO SEE INCREASE IN BUILDING PERMITS; HOME SALES UP By Rachel Brown Hackney Editor The number of Sarasota County building per- mits issued for single-family homes continued its climb in August, according to the latest re- port released by the Sarasota Office of Finan- cial Planning. The county issued 49 permits in August, com- pared to 42 for the same month in 2011, an increase of 16.7%, the figures show. The August number also was higher than Ju- ly's figure of 45 permits. In August, the value of construction for those permits was put at $8,023,000, a 42.7% increase from the August 2011 figure of $5,623,000. However, the August value was about 46% less than the July figure of almost $15 million. In other positive news, the Sarasota Associ- ation of Realtors reported a sale of 819 total units in August, a 36.3% increase from 601 units sold in August 2011. Over the past year, the highest number of res- idences and condominiums sold in a single month was 886, in April. The average number of days for a unit to be on the market also dropped year-over-year for August, to 165, compared to 195 in August 2011.
