Photo by Rachel Hackney SKA NOT OPPOSED TO NEW INTERNET CAFE, THOUGH PLANS FOR GAMES OF CHANCE WORRY SOME RESIDENTS By Rachel Brown Hackney Editor The president of the Siesta Key Association made it clear during the organization's Oct. 4 regular meeting that she and her fellow board members are not against people using Internet cafes. Nonetheless, Catherine Luckner said, the SKA had received one written communication ex- pressing concern about an Internet cafe that is expected to open late this month or in early November in Siesta Village. "You like to find a place where you can get on the Internet if you don't carry your laptop with you" when you travel, Luckner said. "Internet cafes as a whole — it's not an issue." The only concern about such cafes, she said, relates to their allowing people to participate in games of chance. "The gambling issue has been a big one in Florida," she added. Alex Gutierrez, a construction manager and entrepreneur who owns about 30 properties in Sarasota County, plans to open The Ocean Club at 5263 Ocean Blvd., Unit 3 — in the same complex as Blasé Café and The Village Gourmet — by Nov. 5, he told The Sarasota News Leader on Oct. 8.
