The Sarasota Concert Association will present Sarasota Opera's Studio Artists in a Munchtime Musicales performance on Wednesday, March 19, at noon in David Cohen Hall at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center in Sarasota, the association has announced. The Symphony Center is located at 709 N. Tamiami Trail. The concert is free and open to the public. Sarasota Opera's Studio Artists is a group of singers who perform in mainstage produc- tions by understudying principal roles and performing supporting roles, a news release explains. "With dozens of roles needing understudies each season, the Studio Artists are often called on to substitute for an ill or injured principal, sometimes with little notice," the release explains. Members of the Studio Artists "are also Sarasota Opera's ambassadors of opera, bringing music to communities outside the Sarasota Opera House," the release notes. "They perform concerts of operatic and non-operatic greats" throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties for people who might not otherwise be able to attend a performance, it adds. These outreach initiatives are held in schools, retirement homes, community cen- ters and at guild meetings, for examples. Studio Artists not only return often to Sarasota Opera as principal artists, but they also have gone on to perform with opera companies around the world, including La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera and the Paris Opera, the release continues.
