Siesta Key and University Parkway traffic jams, a county human rights ordinance, a state amendment that would permanently ded- icate a funding stream for land conservation, the city's nagging lift station problems, noise, parking: This issue features quite a mix of the old and the new — and new takes on the old. Before I go any further, I want to point out a very helpful discov- ery we just made. The News Leader does, after all, have a search mechanism. When Production Manager Cleve Posey helped us settle on überflip to publish our weekly issues, we were pretty pleased with its capabilities. Let me just say we still are learning about those capabilities. Cleve has created one of his handy tip "fillers" to show you exactly how the search mechanism works, so be sure to look for it. Now, back to the contents. I have to give special thanks to County Editor Roger Drouin this week for pursuing details on one story that already has appeared in other media and a second that deserves far more attention. In my former "life" at the Pelican Press, we almost went out of our way to avoid reporting on matters that other publications had addressed. Given the significant changes in newspapers over the past few years, my feeling now is that the more comprehensive we can make our coverage, the better for you. We also like to think we can offer new insights in the process. Finally, I want to put in another plug for our News Briefs. Once again, it is bursting with a wide array of information.
