appointed by the three remaining city com- missioners. Under New Business (always the final item on an agenda), City Auditor and Clerk Pam Nadalini will lay out the require- ments of the city charter and state law. There is some latitude. For example, should people interested in an appointment fill out an application or questionnaire or a simple letter of interest? Or should commissioners seek out their own nominees? Nadalini has provided a timeline for the process. Both Snyder and Caragiulo have complied with state law and submitted letters of resignation effective Nov. 18 (when some- body will be sworn in to replace Barbetta). The city charter requires replacements be made by Dec. 9. Less than one month later, on Jan. 5, 2015, the qualification period will begin for candidates to run for City Commission district seats. Both Caragiulo and Snyder were elected from districts, respectively District 2 and District 3. The election will be March 10, 2015, and if no candidate receives 50 percent plus one of the votes, a run-off election will be held on May 12, 2015. Whoever is nominated to fill the two vacan- cies will remain in office until May 15, 2015, when the newly elected commissioners are sworn in for their full terms. City Commissioner Paul Caragiulo is vying for the District 2 County Commission seat. Photo by Norman Schimmel Sarasota News Leader June 13, 2014 Page 54
