The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested a North Port man for allegedly selling heroin and for drug trafficking after finding baggies of heroin and cocaine in a vehicle in which the man was a passenger. On June 4, detectives with the Fugitive Apprehension Unit conducted a traffic stop while executing warrants near the 8700 block of Trionfo Avenue in North Port, a news release says. Marlon Cordova, 25, of 8299 Leona Ave., North Port, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was being sought under four warrants for sales of heroin to undercover detectives, the release adds. After the detectives activated their emergency lights on June 4 to initiate the traffic stop, the report says, they saw several objects being thrown from the passenger side of the vehi- cle. After they stopped the vehicle and took Cordova into custody, the report continues, the detectives found a bag on the passenger floorboard that held what appeared to be 10 separate bags of cocaine. They also saw a clear plastic bag in plain view between the passenger seat and the center console, the report adds. Inside it, according to the report, were 80 individual bags of a substance sus- pected to be heroin. Off the roadway, in the area where the detec- tives saw the objects being thrown from the vehicle, they found a prescription pill container and a bag they suspected to hold cocaine, the report says. Subsequent testing of the substances yielded positive results for cocaine and heroin, the report continues. In this latest case, Cordova was charged with one count each of Trafficking in Heroin and Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Sell and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. The earlier counts for which the detectives had warrants were for Sale of a Controlled Substance (Heroin). The North Port Police Department assisted the Sheriff's Office in the apprehension of Cordova, the press release notes. % NORTH PORT MAN CHARGED WITH TRAFFICKING IN COCAINE Marlon Cordova/Contributed photo Simply put, Crime Stoppers relies upon the cooperation between the police the media and the community to provide a flow of information about crime and criminals.
