The detours, which began Oct. 8, are expected to last through the month because of the city's Orange Avenue drainage project. SCAT bus stops on Orange Avenue will be closed between 17th and 21st Streets. Route 7 is from Newtown to Northeast Plaza; Route 8 is from Newtown to U.S. 301. The de- tour route will be east on 17th Street, north on Gillespie Avenue and west on 21st Street, then back to the main route at Orange Avenue and 21st Street, the news release says. Route 8 is continuing to serve the Pines of Sarasota and the mobile home park along Or- ange Avenue, the release says. At 17th Street, the Route 8 bus is turning east to follow the Route 7 detour on 17th Street, then going north on Gillespie Avenue and west on 21st Street before returning to the main route at Orange Avenue and 21st Street. For both routes, service north of 21st and south of 17th Street will not be impacted by the detour.
