The Sarasota County commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday, Jan. 28, to remove the "interim" from Tom Harmer's title, making him the county's permanent CEO in charge of 2,100 employees, 22 departments and day- to-day operations. They agreed Harmer has been doing a good job as the interim administrator, a senti- ment consistent with praise the board has offered over the past three months. Commissioner Joe Barbetta pointed out that the county's daily operations have been run- ning smoothly since late October, when past Chairwoman Carolyn Mason called Harmer and asked him to step into the position on an interim basis. She placed the call shortly after the board fired Administrator Randall Reid. " I t d o e s n 't a p p e a r we've missed a beat," said Barbetta, one of three commissioners Tom Harmer (right) tells the County Commission he would like to accept the offer to remove 'interim' from his title.
