The Keating Theatre at Florida Studio Theatre will be the scene of favorite poem readings on May 3. Contributed photo Florida Studio Theatre has announced the beginning of the 2014 Favorite Poem Project in partnership with BookStore1Sarasota. FST will host the 2014 Favorite Poem Reading with special guests Mark Doty, winner of the National Book Award, and Kevin Young, an award-winning poet, on May 3 at 3 p.m. in the Keating Theatre. Submission forms for people who wish to participate are available at the FST box office (1241 N. Palm Ave. in down- town Sarasota) or at BookStore1Sarasota, located at 1359 Main St. in downtown Sarasota, a news release says. All submissions are due at BookStore1Sarasota no later than April 7. Interested persons may mail submissions to Poetry Life Favorite Poem Project c/o Bookstore1Sarasota, 1359 Main St., Sarasota, Fl. 34236; they may drop off materials at the store; or they may email them to poetryadmin@poetrylife.org. "The Favorite Poem Project is just one compo- nent of the Poetry Life Weekend," the release notes. This is an opportunity for community members to bring to life the works of their favorite poets, it adds. "BookStore1Sarasota and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation have made it possible to host this event along with Florida Studio Theatre," the release notes. Doty and Young also will explore their works and methods with teachers during a luncheon honoring community educators, the release continues. Further, students will have the chance to submit their own works for possi- ble readings during the weekend of May 2 and 3, the release adds. All members of the community are encour- aged to submit their favorite poems — written by an established poet — for the opportunity to participate in the Favorite Poem Reading, the release says.
