With most of the students being Florida
natives, a trip to New York might be their
first opportunity to see snow, the release also
points out.
"For those of us who moved here to escape
the white stuff, it may be hard to believe that
a lot of our band members are actually hop-
ing it snows during our visit," said Spreen. "Of
course, walking on a snow-covered city street
may be less appealing once the flakes hit the
pavement, but if it means a chance to experi-
ence something new and exotic, I'm sure they
won't complain."
"In addition to marching in the St. Patrick's
Day Parade, the Kilties will take a whirlwind
tour of the Big Apple, spending an afternoon
in Times Square, getting a behind-the-scenes
tour of Radio City Music Hall, taking in a
Broadway show, touring the aircraft carrier
Intrepid and visiting the 9/11 Memorial," the
release continues.
Kiltie fans can watch the students march in
the New York St. Patrick's Day Parade by
going to the live link nycstpatricksparade.org
at 11 a.m., Monday, March 17.
Alice Rau and Joyce Tate of Sarasota will
be honored with the 2014 Schoenbaum
Humanitarian Award during Glitz at the
Ritz on Thursday, March 20, organizers
have announced.

in Atlanta. Under his guidance, $33 million
was raised for The Salvation Army Officers
Training College in that city, the release adds.
A reception and silent auction preview will
begin at 11:15 a.m. on March 20 at the hotel
on Sarasota's bayfront. The luncheon and
awards presentation will follow at noon.
Individual tickets are $75. For more informa-
tion, call 364-8845, Ext. 221.
