On Saturday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF) will present an Education & Advocacy Day Conference in Tampa, a free event open to all breast cancer survivors, patients and care- givers who are interested in learning about the most current findings and advances in breast cancer research, the organization has announced. Breast cancer is the most commonly diag- nosed cancer among women in the United States and worldwide except for skin cancer, a news release says. Each year, 240,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed (one in eight women), the release adds. In Florida this year, "12,650 new cases will be diagnosed and 2,730 will die from this terrible disease," the release continues. Breast cancer not only affects women, but men as well. Annually 2,030 men are diag- nosed with breast cancer and 450 will die, the release points out. Through statewide educational programs such as Education and Advocacy Day, the FBCF is working to reduce these numbers, the release adds. Attendees at the March 22 conference not only will be able to attend edu- cational sessions featuring top local breast cancer experts and advocates, but they also will have an opportunity to meet with local exhibitors, the release continues. A complimentary lunch will be served. Although the event is free, attendees are asked to RSVP, as space is limited. The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza Tampa — Westshore, located at 5303 W. Kennedy Blvd. To RSVP, visit FloridaBreastCancer.org or call 877-644-3222. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, FBCF relies upon the financial support of corpora- tions and individuals, the release notes. All money raised stays in Florida. It is the only organization in the state that receives revenue from sales of the End Breast Cancer license plates, the release adds.
