THE NEW STICKNEY POINT ROAD INTERSECTION SIGN IS COMING SOON; TICKETS ARE BEING WRITTEN FOR ILLEGAL PARKING ON AVENIDA DE MAYO; AND VOLUNTEERS PULL IN A BIG HAUL OF GARBAGE Siesta Seen SIESTA SEEN Early next week, a new "blankout" sign should be installed at the intersection of Stickney Point Road and Midnight Pass Road to enable motorists to turn right on red once again if no pedestrians are in the crosswalk. That was the news on March 27 from Sarasota County Chief Engineer James K. Harriott Jr. County Commission Vice Chairwoman Christine Robinson told me Wednesday she had asked about the plans for the intersection during the March 24 meeting of the Sarasota/ Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), but she had not received a defini- tive response from Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) staff. Therefore, she asked Harriott for an update, and she was kind enough to pass that along to me after I spoke with her about my efforts to learn the latest news. By Rachel Brown Hackney Editor Traffic backups on the Stickney Point bridge are expected to be alleviated as soon as new signage goes up to permit right turns on red once more onto Midnight Pass Road.
