Florida Studio Theatre's Court Cabaret will present Too Darn Hot Feb. 19 through June 7, featuring the beloved music of Cole Porter, the Theatre has announced. Single tickets range from $18 to $36. They may be purchased online at FloridaStudioTheatre. org, by phone at 366-9000 or by visiting the box office at 1241 N. Palm Ave. in downtown Sarasota. In the '30s and '40s, a news release notes, Porter was among the most prolific musicians, creating such timeless songs as It's DeLovely and I Love Paris. He also was renowned as a Broadway composer/lyricist, writing more than 25 musicals, including Anything Goes, Fifty Million Frenchmen and Tony Award winner Kiss Me Kate, the release points out. His songs are filled "with satiric wit and enchanting romance," the release continues. "His sophisticated robust sound defined the era and continues to influence music today." Too Darn Hot will have a cast of four, includ- ing two returning FST performers, Stephen Hope and Gayle Samuels, and two making their FST debuts: Derrick Cobey and Ruthie Stephens, the release adds. % FEEL THE HEAT AT FST WHEN TOO DARN HOT OPENS FEB. 19 Cole Porter compositions will be at the heart of FST's new show. He began his interna- tional conducting career in 1982, when he won the Herbert von Karajan Competition in Berlin while he was still a student, the release points out. Since then, he has headed the Zagreb Philharmonic and Estonian National Symphony orchestras, and he has conducted the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the Berlin and the Baltimore Symphony orchestras, and the New Japan Philharmonic. He is also a guest conductor for the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra of Holland, the release says. Pianist Kozhukhin "was launched onto the international scene after winning first prize at the 2010 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels at age 23," the release notes.
