Siesta Seen With Cece taking on the Village oversight for the county, Smith added, "Hopefully, we're going to get some things resolved." During the Jan. 7 SKVA meeting, when Smith reported that the new streetlight still was not up, Siesta Key Association Vice President Michael Shay responded that it had been more than a year since the pole was leveled. SKVA and SKA members are not the only ones wondering about that streetlight. On the morning of Feb. 1, a man who lives on Ocean Boulevard emailed Commissioner Nora Patterson, a Siesta resident, to say, "[T]here is an item that has been bothering me for some time. The streetlight in the Village in front of the motel and across from Terrace East on Ocean Blvd. was knocked down by a car almost two years ago. When I asked about it with a member of the Siesta Key Association, I was told that the streetlight had been deliv- ered, but that no one from the County would install it. Would you please check into this, and see if the streetlight can be installed. It is very dark there early in the morning." Patterson replied on Feb. 4, copying County Administrator Tom Harmer: "I will certainly check on this or rather request that it be checked. Tom — who would be responsible for this?" Harmer responded to Patterson a couple of hours later: "I copied our County Engineer Jim Harriott so he can follow up on the status and report back." Perhaps the new streetlight finally will go up. BURGLARY SUSPECT SOUGHT The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to help detectives identify a person of interest seen in surveillance images near the scenes of recent residential burglaries on Siesta Key. The crimes have occurred at condominiums on the south end of the island, the office has reported. "The burglarized units show no sign of forced entry, and the suspect takes jewelry and cash without disturbing anything else so when residents return they don't immediately realize anything's missing," a news release Sarasota News Leader February 7, 2014 Page 110
