To the Editor: There is a best practice in fracking that involves recovering the water and chemicals used to fracture the rock and shale and reusing it to frack again. Thus, the cost of the water is recovered, as well as the cost of the chemicals. The financial savings of doing this would provide some incentive, and a little government pressure might provide some more incentive. Maybe a tax on the water and chemicals not recovered? Pete Theisen Sarasota Editor's note: The use of the term "best practice" has become a popular misno- mer when applied to practices that are not "good" at the outset. There is virtu- ally nothing about fracking that could be termed a good practice. Thus, it would seem that the only appropriate appli- cation of "best practice" would be the avoidance of pumping millions of gal- lons of toxic brine into the ground in the first place. READER SUGGESTS A DIFFERENT METHOD OF FRACKING "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference" — Robert Frost LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Press Releases & News Tips News@SarasotaNewsLeader.com OPINION Sarasota News Leader February 7, 2014 Page 94
