BAY ISLAND SEAWALL WORK IS MIRED IN A LEGAL MORASS; THE STREETLIGHT ISSUE FINALLY MAY BE RESOLVED; AND THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE IS ASKING FOR HELP IN IDENTIFYING AN ISLAND BURGLARY SUSPECT By Rachel Brown Hackney Editor Siesta Seen SIESTA SEEN On Aug. 27, 2013, Sarasota County staff learned of the death of the owner of the con- struction company that was handling the Bay Island Park seawall construction project. The man's body was found on a sandbar in Big Pass, and the death was later determined to have resulted from natural causes. However, the project has been on hold since then. Sarasota County spokesman Curt Preisser told me this week that county staff worked with the company that held the bond on the project, encouraging it to find another con- tractor to take over the work. Ultimately, A section of Bay Island Park has been closed to the public since the seawall construction project came to a halt in late August 2013. Photo by Rachel Hackney
