Two weeks before the wedding, Mart said in his email, "I had to try to scram- ble to find places for people to stay. [This] has been a big nightmare …" Fortunately, Mart added, some people in the wedding party were able to stay in the house, "so [we were] only out about half the money. … [W]e rented a couple other places and had no problems." The News Leader provided the Sarasota County Sheriff 's Office with copies of email correspondence from Sharon and Ken Thibodeau and Greg Mart, with their permission. On Feb. 4, Wendy Rose, community affairs manager for the Sheriff's Office, told the News Leader a detective had confirmed for her that "we are investigating complaints from multi- ple [fraud] victims at this time." WHO IS CRAIG SIEGEL? When the News Leader began reporting on the 6537 Sabal Drive house problems in July 2013, this reporter found Siegel listed as a practitioner at State Street Spine, located at 1379 Mcansh St. in Sarasota. Each time this reporter called that practice this week, a recording said Siegel's voice mail- box was full. The recording offered no other means to leave a message. According to a Feb. 5 check of Florida health- care licenses, Siegel's address is 1537 State St.; his license, which is current through March 31, 2014, was issued on Feb. 13, 1998. A check of the Division of Corporations records on the Florida Department of State's website indicates Siegel has been renting property for more than a decade. The most current company with which he is associ- ated, Siesta Vacations Inc., lists 6537 Sabal Drive, Sarasota, as its principal address. The registered agent for Siesta Vacations is Siesta Resorts LLC. While Marni Larkin of Sarasota is listed as the owner, "C Siegel" is listed as the vice president. The address for Siegel also is listed as 6537 Sabal Drive, Sarasota. The 2013 annual report for Siesta Vacations lists the same information. However, the 2012 and 2011 annual reports list Glen R. Lansky, Esq., of Brandon as the registered agent for Siesta Vacations LLC. Susan Siegel is named as the owner, and "C Siegel" of 6537 Sabal Drive is listed as the vice president. In the 2010 annual report, Siegel is listed as the CEO with the address of 5174 Sandy Cove Ave., Sarasota, while Christopher Woods of Los Angeles is named as the vice president. A year earlier, the report for Siesta Vacations listed Siegel as the owner and Lansky as the registered agent. In 2008, the business was listed as Craig Siegel, P.A. Dr. Craig Siegel was listed as the owner with the Sarasota address of 5174 Sandy Cove Ave. on Siesta Key. However, Glen R. Lansky still was named as the registered agent. In May 2008, records show, Siegel changed the company name to Siesta Vacations Inc. The first year an annual report shows up for Siegel is in 2001.
