Susan Marks, associate professor of religion at New College of Florida, will discuss her book, First Came Marriage, during a pro- gram at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 21, hosted by the Congregation for Humanistic Judaism (CHJ). Marks learned through her research "that in the early days of Judaism, most weddings did not include familiar rituals, let alone a rabbi," a news release points out. The book combines ritual and historical perspectives "to exam- ine the process by which early Jews married and the ways rabbis minimized, elaborated or codiļ¬ed the practices," the release adds.
