For the past several years, merchants in Burns Square have complained about a loss of business during the days-long street drawing event. An experiment last year that involved using paint instead of chalk has backfired, with the painted images proving very difficult to remove. That is sure to be an item of dis- cussion as well. The ordinance would require City Commission approval for street closures for special events of more than 72 hours, and it would demand notice to all persons impacted by the closure. The only city event requiring a street closure for more than three days is the Chalk Festival.
