Founded by a group of Dartmouth University students in 1971, Pilobolus "brings excep- tional creativity intertwined with versatility and physically challenging choreography" to the stage, as it seeks to test the way in which audience members view dance, a Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall announcement says. "Witness it for yourself at the Van Wezel" on Feb. 12 at 8 p.m., a news release adds. "Pilobolus will open your eyes to the state of the art" with its leaping, flying, mirrors, poles, chains and platforms, the release notes. The company provides "one example after another of how the human body can be seen as so much more than what it is," as The New Yorker put it. "More than just a dance company, Pilobolus strives to inspire and engage audiences around the world through performance, education and consultation," the release continues. It has been honored with the Berlin Critic's Prize, the Scotsman Award, the Brandeis Award, a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cultural Programming, the Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement in Choreography, a TED Fellowship and a Grammy nomination. Tickets are priced from $40 to $60. For more information, call the box office at 953-3368 or visit VanWezel.org.
